Tonight we featured an exclusive in studio performance from fretless guitarist Michael Vick. Michael is a multi instrumentalist who has released several uncanny experimental guitar albums representing a wide variety of compositions from jazz and classical to progressive rock and the avant garde. Michael came on at 11:00 and dazzled our audience with his individualized playing. I felt bad for his tech tonight because he was literally falling asleep waiting for the performace to begin. It was a basic recording of mics to amps. Reminded me of the old days of recording live stuff on the show before the new studio. Recording still came out great!
As always, I love Saturday nights for many reasons. The one that sticks out primarily is our security gaurd Ralph. Ralph comes in usually at midnight and always looks miserable. But he looked smilier than usual...until I opened the door to have a smoke. He gave me the look of death and proclaimed I was trying to kill him. Cold air is good for the lungs. Maybe not the tobacco smoke though. Our listenership peaked during the Caryn Lin spotlight, and again during the Soft Machine set. The Soft Machine is a wonderful new archive recorded in 1975 featuring Allan Holdsworth. Excellent recording with a great live presence. This is a must get for 2006.
Chad is now prepping for our 8th Annual Nearfest Special next Saturday. Should be HOOT!

Tonight's show was one of those shows I walked out of the studio and was happy with the final product. Not to say I am not happy with most of the shows, this one just had perfect balance. Tonight we had Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller of A Triggering Myth on our program. We featured and world premiered the forthcoming disc The Remedy Of Abstraction. I last featured an interview with Rick on Forgiving Eden back in 2002, and it was nice to get to know these guys personally. They are two of the nicest guys, and on top of being great composers, they and are just great to be around. Rick and Tim really are soulmates musically and you got that feeling as the interview went on. Great insight on a masterful recording. Truly a great disc, and as always they put out an excellent product no matter who they get on their disc. This one featuring Akihisa Tsuboy from KBB, and now McGill/Manring/Stevens and the 'band'. A Triggering Myth progresses from album to album without losing their foundation in both writing and playing. Very refreshing. We will be posting some mp3's of their interview...stay tuned.
Record Heaven have release two nice discs we featured in Oresund Space Collective, a space rock band along the lines of the Ozric Tentacles without the heavy rhythm section. We also feature the Swedish reissue of Mr Brown and the Mellen Tre Ogen CD. Another nice disc in the style of Camel. The big news tonight was the Secret Oyster Sea Son album finally seeing the light of day on CD from the Laser's Edge. It was our programs peak in listenership tonight. Got a great Valentine email if you want to call it that. Dan Lawrie, one of our loyal listeners in Western Colorado has been pimping my show out to people. Apparently he recruited another listener again. When we go Satellite, Dan is in my PR department for sure. This is what keeps you going when you feel like quiting this saturday night debacle week to week...

As always, late to the party, I just wanted to thank whichever one of youisbehind the Aural Moon show Gagliarchives (I forgot who). Just glad I havefound it now. I was really wowed by the Flower Kings stuff! I have triedthem before but wasn't floored by it like I was this time. Guess like mostother bands we know, they must have highs and lows in their output and Ijust didn't hit the right stuff. I also appreciate that "The Gag" (as I willnow be calling it) features a lot of the more "crunchy" items from the worldof Prog. I like high fiber content in my musical diet.Tom's not a member here, but he IS a GG fan. I'm a regular listener, andI'm the one who pimps his shows. (Saturday nights 10pm-2am Eastern atwww.auralmoon.com) Glad you took the bait! I like his mix of old and newprog as well as jazz, fusion and more spacy fare. Oh, and btw, we call him"Gags", but he prefers "Thomas" hehe. I'll send him a copy of this.Dan Ln.d. Heinekenn.p. news

Winter finally came. Well at least this weekend. The buzz started sometime Tuesday that snow would come by Friday. Well better yet, it waited until show time to blast. Fortunately for me, Ken Golden and I pre-recorded our tribute to the Women Of Progressive Rock. The show went swimmingly besides the 'thunder snow' outside that dropped 4 inches in 2 hours. Our peak came during the second hour while we aired the music of Frumpy. We paid tribute to Dr. James Still tonight in our History Of Southern New Jersey segment. A perfect fit for Black History Month as well. It was a disaster driving home at 2AM. The roads stunk out loud and 4 wheel did nothing. Well a little...then again you could have had 6 wheel drive and it wouldn't have done anything. One thing that is great is driving through the bypass in Pemberton as the snow flies head on into the windshield and it slowly becomes hypnotizing. Unfortunately, I had to stop the Jeep several times to get the ice off the wipers. It was nasty. Nice to come home to a warm bed. This program ran 4 hours and 10 minutes and is ranked 4th in listenership this year so far.

I know I know...what took so long? ahhhhhhhhhh shuuuuuuuud aaahhhhhhp......Tonight we featured the new #1 disc from the Tangent titled A Place In The Queue. I wll go far as saying this is the finest new 'progressive rock' disc I have heard in while. GPS Culture is a great track and is getting the buzz as of now. The most calls tonight were on The Tangent again, followed by Popul Vuh. Our listenership peaked from 10:30 to 11:20. (The Tangent, Silver Lining, King Crimson). Apparently I was funny again tonight while I was doing the Stargazer's Handbook. A listener emailed and told me they were a bit disappointed that I laughed at the fact that our tenth planet and its moon, is being referred to as Xena and Gabrielle.... the TV warrior princess and her longtime companion. Wait...that's not funny? Trust me I think Xena is hot and all....but....Xena? Look...I'll go a step further. I never even WATCHED Xena. You are seriously going to name a planet Xena? Whoa.
At any rate..I couldn't help it, but at the end of the report, I started to laugh. Not a knock..but let's be real. Xena?
Roger was on board for us tonight and as always did great...Some things sound great on the radio. Something about radio enhances some things. Maybe I'm nuts. Playing National Health 'Tenemos Road' still makes the hairs stand on end. Ray Russell's Goodbye Svengali is a wonderful disc that is a must get. Very solid fusion, and if you love MMS, you will love this.
Anyway...Superbowl is coming up. I'm still getting over the Eagles crash and burn. But I feel that this game may be a surprise...I think Seattle will win. As much as I really could care less....the Superbowl has always been anti-climactic to me. It's the last game of the year. That sucks. Really sucks. No football anything till August. 'Cause seriously....who watches the Pro Bowl? I don't. And I live for football. And arena football, that is just a tease. (I still watch the Soul)
Anyway...time for a nap. I want to go in the Pines tomorrow. Final Score:
Seattle 31, Pittsburgh 17
At least either way, that's the combonation of points I see. Go bet it.
np: Sigur Ros - Takk (replay of show) A haunting tune that reminds me of August. The song is called Saeglopur.
Nite.
